Comparing DaySavers and Blazy Susan Products

There is something about the cannabis industry that draws people together. Maybe it’s the shared love of the cannabis plant, or maybe it’s the joy of being working in an industry that 20 years ago would have landed you in the slammer.

Whatever it is, even competing brands can form bonds, understanding that they are competitors but welcoming their presence as passionate folks in an industry they love.

This extends to DaySavers, where the respect for competitors and non-competitors alike is innate, and one brand in particular that we consistently tip our hats to is Blazy Susan. Blazy was founded in Virginia by Will Breakell in 2017 with the launch of their flagship Blazy Susan spinning rolling tray organizer and the company has only grown since, becoming practically synonymous with pink rolling papers.

Similar to Will’s story, the founders of DaySavers and their B2B pre-roll supply brand Custom Cones USA started their venture in 2017, though DaySavers would come to life in 2023 to bring directly to consumers the high-quality, always-tested pre-roll products that producers use to package their pre-rolls.

Today, both companies stand proud alongside their line of pre-rolled cones and premium smoking accessories, often attending the same tradeshows and sharing shelf space in dispensaries and smoke shops. So we decided to take a look at the product offerings of these two brands to see how they have grown and evolved since their inception, from Blazy’s flagship Blazy Susan tray and organizer to DaySavers line up of premium tipped pre-rolled cones, let’s take a deep dive into the product lines of these two titans of smoking accessories.

Blazy Susan Rolling Papers

To begin our look at the brand that is Blazy Susan, we have to start with one of their signature products: the pink rolling paper. These eye-catching dyed papers, pretty in pink and all, are synonymous with the brand and a hit with consumers. While not their claim to fame, Blazy’s iconic pink papers, made from ultra-thin fine French paper and available in 1-1/4” and king size, easily have some of the most brand recognition out their when it comes to papers.

With the popularity and loyalty driven by their pink, why not introduce purple? Their purple papers come in the same varieties as their pink but with a touch of lavender instead of a light pink rose. Vegan and non-GMO, these colored papers are a favorite and there is no question about that. Need filter tips as well? They’ve got booklets with paper crutches as well.

Beyond colored papers, Blazy carries unbleached papers in the same sizes, as well as ultra-thin “rice papers” in 1-1/4”, as well as king size slim and wide’s. And while ‘rice’ is part of the name, the papers, are made with wood pulp, and not rice, similar to their unbleached papers but more refined.

They have bundles of their papers so you can get both sizes and a 6-pack of 1-1/4” cones in the same paper type and offer the High Roller Kit, complete with perforated paper tips and a wild 8-meter roll of signature paper, perfect for creative rollers. You can pick these up in pink, purple and unbleached. They also feature a pink coffin paper kit, tucked in a coffin shaped box with 32 papers and tips, delightfully priced at $4.20, we might add.

And lastly, there’s their collab papers with the Grateful Dead and Shaggy, recognized widely as the ‘Weed Man to the Stars.’ The wildly sick collaboration with the Grateful Dead goes far past rolling papers, but we’ll get there later. The Dead Head Rolling Co. papers come in a refined white, or unofficially bleached in terms used by Blazy, though not a chemical bleach of course. These Dead papers have an iconic look themselves, but how couldn’t they with the name of Legends donned on every booklet.

Shaggy’s papers are coined “ultra-thin rice papers,” though as mentioned before, they are just ultra-refined wood pulp and not actually rice. The Grateful Dead papers come in 1-1/4”, king size slim and king size wide, while the Shaggy’s come only in the king size varieties.

DaySavers Rolling Papers

When it comes to pre-rolled cones, DaySavers has an extensive range of paper and wrap options. For rolling paper booklets, we’re looking at refined white rolling paper and branded filter tip booklets in 1-¼ and king sized. The DaySavers booklets feature the famous terp characters while the Smoke Temple rolling paper booklets also come with a built in rolling tray that folds out when you open, using a magnet to close them.

Both DaySavers and Smoke Temple rolling papers come with filter tips; the DaySavers filter tips are white while the Smoke Temple offers stylish, black filter tips that are guaranteed to stand out.

Unlike Blazy, DaySavers doesn’t offer dyed rolling papers, though there are pink hybrid hemp artisan tubes, but we’ll get there in a minute. One other difference is that Blazy offers rolling papers that are unbleached, referred to by DaySavers as natural brown, though DaySavers sticks to refined white papers in their booklets.

Blazy Susan Wraps

Blazy Susan also has a line of blunt wraps, 4 in fact, coming in two forms: Rose Wraps and Tea Leaf Wraps. Their Rose Wraps are actually made from German wood-based papers and infused with rose extracts, giving a light rose taste and a floral aroma without actually using rose petals.

Their U.S.-made Tea Leaf wraps, true to their name, are made with real black tea, chamomile, and cacao. They smell great, taste great and complement the bud with an even, slow burn. If tea leaf wasn’t exotic enough, they also offer a Russian Cream wrap with rich chocolate and subtly sweet cream flavors, made with the same wrap-base of black tea, chamomile and cacao.

A smooth citrus flavor accompanies the Honey Lemon wraps like iced tea on a warm day. Blazy’s wraps come in packs of 2 and 5-pack bundles, and later we’ll talk about their bulk options for their retailers, producers, and heavy smokers alike.

DaySavers Wraps

While there are multiple wraps employed by DaySavers, they currently only offer wraps in pre-rolled blunt form, though it’s only a matter of time before those wraps come in sheet form.

Blazy Susan Pre-Rolled Cones

Blazy’s cones come in a wide-range of pack sizes, from 3, 6, 12 and 20 cone packs to jars of 50 and boxes of cone packs totaling up to 252 cones per box. They also offer pre-roll producer sized cones boxes of up to 900 cones per box, intended for brands to pack their own flower to sell in dispensaries (like RAW cones), but accessible to the most frequent of stoners if they please.

Their pre-rolled cones come with a standard W paper cone tip matching the color (except for their ultra-thin rice cones which come with white paper and black branded tips) of the accompanying paper, but they also carry an interesting cone-filter combo: Activated Carbon Filter Tips by Purize. These specially designed carbon tips reduce harshness and impurities and provide a cleaner taste during your smoke, plus, they're sustainably produced in Germany. The activated carbon is inside the filter on coconut chips, and the activated carbon vented caps are optimized for clean air flow.

Stocking Up on Blazy Susan

Picking up a 2-pack of rose wraps is pretty cool for a special occasion, but for more regular smokers of these products, a bulk option goes a long way.

When it comes to buying products in bulk, most often reserved for retailers (and producers for cones boxes of 900 cones), there are many size options among many of their products.

21-pack boxes of varying size paper cone packs can be purchased in most paper types including their Grateful Dead collab cones, with boxes containing anywhere from 126 cones to over 250.

Pre-rolled blunt cones can be purchased in 10 pack boxes containing 20 blunt cones per box, and their rolling paper booklets (including the Grateful Dead and Shaggy’s line), High Roller kits, and filter tip booklets can be picked up in display boxes of large quantities, perfect for smoke shops, dispensaries, or the most diehard fans.

Their large quantity cone tower boxes offer consumers the most bang for their buck with boxes of cones containing over 800 cones coming in pink, purple and unbleached. Usually boxes that size are designed for producers of pre-rolls, but Blazy markets these massive count cone boxes to the heavy consumers, though they clearly have value for large quantity pre-roll production for brands looking to create colorful unique pre-rolls.

Smoking Accessories

It’s safe to say that all products sold by Blazy Susan and DaySavers are smoking accessories, but being the pre-roll nerds that we are, we wanted to break out the accessories that help you pack from the accessories that you straight up pack. And since we’re talking about Blazy Susan, it’s only natural to start with the first product they brought to market, the Blazy Susan itself.

Blazy Susan Rolling Trays

Why settle for a standard rolling tray? Yes, they are functional and yes, they get the job done, but as us smokers transform into stoners, our Stoner Tool Kit grows, and with that comes the need for organization and storage. And that is what the Blazy Susan offers, and some!

True to its name, the wood-made Blazy Susan rotates for easy maneuverability and has around 20 compartments of varying sizes to stash your joints, papers, lighters, grinder, poking stick, dab tools, bowl pieces, you name it, all surrounding the large center compartment that’s ready to serve as your rolling station or place to set your rig. Similar to the compartment feature of the Blazy Susan, a rectangular tray with 9 compartments and grooves to hold tools and even sacrifices storage capability for a smaller size. Blazy Susan Pre-Roll Filling Machines

When your flagship product is an advanced rolling tray, pre-roll filling products likely take focus away from their crown jewel, so they’re options for pre-roll filling is limited to the cone slots on their rolling trays, where you can place the tip in the hole to keep your cone vertical for easy loading.

They do carry a classic joint roller made from bamboo in 78mm, 110mm, and 110 wide, so you can roll a joint from scratch, but from a pre-rolled cone-filling perspective, Blazy has no device that automates the process.

Blazy Susan Grinders

We also tested all five mill plates with a full ounce of sticky ZoZ flower and the results were pretty awesome. The #2 plate yielded flower particles that were sized perfectly for pre-rolls, the perfect size for packing with the Perfect Pack machine. Even with build-up from that dank bud, the Flower Mill held up great with low resistance and easy rotation throughout. Flower Mills are the new standard in performance and quality, and they feel damn nice in your hands.
