Do Hemp Wraps Get You High?

As makers of premium hemp-wrap products, such as our line of Fill-a Blunts pre-rolled hemp wrap blunt tubes, we see a lot of questions and information floating around the inter-web about hemp wraps.

One of the biggest questions we at DaySavers get is “Do hemp wraps get you high?” It’s an understandable question, given that hemp and cannabis are the same plant and that there are unscrupulous operators out there who try to imply that they might.

So let’s end this debate once and for all: Do hemp wraps get you high? No. If they did, they’d be a lot more expensive.

Do Hemp Wraps Got that Dank?

First, hemp wraps are made with hemp, not cannabis. Yes, it’s the same plant, but grown and bred for different purposes. “Hemp” is legally defined as being cannabis that has less than 0.3% THC. That means even without the processing, the plant matter used to make hemp wraps would not get you high if you smoked it directly, let alone of making it into a wrap.

Additionally, the majority of hemp wraps out there, including Fill-a Blunts, are made with what is called “reconstituted hemp wrap.” That means the plant’s biomass – parts from the entire plant – is grinded down and then remixed with a binder into a slurry that is spread out or sometimes extruded into a sheet. Believe it or not, it’s actually the bonds in the water molecule that help hold it all together, which is why hemp wraps can get brittle as those bonds dry up.

But during that process, heat is used, which de-carbs the remaining cannabinoids, rendering them inert. Which is also why there is no CBD in the wraps, despite it appearing in larger quantities in the plant itself.

As a note, though not made by the same process, our hybrid hemp wraps also do not contain THC and will not get you high. Our hybrid hemp wraps use more hemp fiber and less reconstituted material, more like hemp paper, making them less reliant on the water molecules and less likely to crumble if left out.

But while there is no THC in hemp wraps, there may be other things lurking that you don’t realize. As I said, the process used in making these things is both very water-intensive and uses a lot of hemp biomass. Because of that, if they are not dried properly, hemp wraps can become breeding grounds for microbials.

That’s why we always test our hemp wraps to the strictest standards in the cannabis industry for microbials, as well as pesticides and heavy metals. There are no laws requiring it, but we do it in the name of transparency, and because it matters to smokers, a community we are very much a part of!

It’s why we can confidently say our Smokewares are Simply Superior.

    Enjoy Your Day!
