Have you seen the Smoke Temple Cross Cone? It’s kind of amazing. I mean, look at this thing.

Glorious, right? The Pre-Rolled Cross Cone is truly where pre-roll engineering and art come together. It’s an instant conversation starter. From the packaging to the cone itself, to the way all three ends glow when you take a hit during the sesh, it’s guaranteed to get everyone in the circle talking – or fired up if you will.

But while it’s certainly easier than rolling your own cross cone, packing and lighting one these bad boys is an art – perhaps a dark art, even – unto itself.

So how do you pack a cross cone? And how do you light a cross cone once it’s packed?

    Let’s play the Feud.

What is a Pre-Rolled Cross Cone?

The cross joint rose to national prominence after the movie “Pineapple Express” hit theaters. In the movie, Seth Rogan is visiting his plug, James Franco, and finds on the table a fat joint with another joint sticking through it, forming a cross. Franco calls it “the future.”

“This is what your grandchildren are going to be smoking,” he says.

But while spectacular, the cross joint is not an easy roll and became a bit of a legend, with only the top rollers able to put one together.

But thankfully, the future is finally here. The Smoke Temple Cross Cone is the perfect, pre-rolled reincarnation of the fabled cross joint, beautifully designed and expertly crafted so that anyone can now experience the glory of the three-tipped cross joint. It’s the height of pre-rolled innovation.

All you have to do with a Smoke Temple Cross Cone is pack it and light it.

How Do You Pack a Pre-Rolled Cross Cone?

Packing a pre-rolled cross cone just takes a little finesse and is waaaaaay easier than rolling one. It just takes a little patience and a steady hand. Packing a Cross Cone is essentially packing three cones at one time.

So start with the basics and grind your flower to a consistent, even size. You can do this with a traditional toothed grinder, but we recommend a Stache Grynder or a Flower Mill as they provide a more consistent, fluffier grind without damaging the terpenes and cannabinoids in your flower, like a typical weed grinder would do. And for packing a cone like this, use one of the smaller grind plates – nothing bigger than the No. 3 standard plate – since smaller particles will pack into your cone and fill spaces easier for a tighter fill that is less likely to canoe. Once your flower is ground, dump it out onto your Smoke Temple Rolling Tray to begin packing.

Either use your cone to scoop up a little bit of your ground flower or lightly pinch a bit and drop it in, but not too much.

Now give it a bounce on your tray. This will help settle the particles down near the cone’s black filter tip. After, tamp down the ground flower you’ve got it in with a packing stick, but not too tight.

And take your time. This is the most important part of the packing process, after all. We need to make sure this section is packed completely and evenly. If you don’t you might get a floppy filter. And a droopy cone - even a droopy cross cone – is the last thing anyone wants to smoke.

Once your filter section is filled – and not too tightly; remember we still need to pull through this – repeat the process of scooping, bouncing and tamping until your main vertical cone is fully filled. You’ll want to tamp the flower in small batches, scooping up your ground flower little by little, followed by tamping.

When you vertical cone is filled, twist or Dutch Crown fold the top. This will help keep your weed in the cone as we fill the cross sections.

Now, repeat the above steps for each of the two horizontal cones, but without the bouncing. That would be weird and probably crush the opposite cross. But you still want to scoop or drop ground flower into the cone and give it tamp, repeating the process until full.

You will have to be a little more gentle here as there is not a carboard filter backing it up, but the meat of your joint itself, but you are still going to want a fairly dense and consistent pack to avoid canoeing.

When you are done, close off that end, flip it over and repeat on the other side, trying to match the density and consistency of your pack from the first arm of the cross.

When you have all three sections filled, tamped and closed, take a moment and just admire the spectacular feat of pre-roll engineering in your hands. Congratulations, you have packed a Smoke Temple Cross Cone.

It’s time for your reward: smoking the Cross Cone.

How the *$&# Do You Light a Cross Cone?

“What you do is you light all three ends at the same time and then the smoke converges, creating a trifecta of joint smoking power.” - Saul Silver (James Franco), Pineapple Express.

OK, so this gets a little tricky. I know what you’re thinking: TRICKY? But this is supposed to be the easy part!

But think about it; there are three different tips that need to be lit and even on your best day, you’ve only got two hands. I may not be a math major, but I can count...

The easiest way to light a Smoke Temple Cross Cone is with a friend. And while we at DaySavers HQ have been known to burn a few of these solo from time to time, the Cross Cone really is a party cone, designed to be shared and create memories that may or may not actually be remembered, depending on how good your weed is.

So if you are in a sesh with a friend or friends, grab two lighters and a second set of hands. If you have a third friend with you, even better.

If there are three of you, we recommend letting the two people NOT taking the first hit light all three tips, with one sparking up two and the other touching off the third. Honestly, it does not matter who takes which tip, as long as they are all lit at the same time and everyone is careful not to get burned as it’s happening.

If there are two of you, the smoker is going to have to help light the ends and, really, which ends you each light is up to you and what feels the most comfortable. Personally, I find it easiest for the smoker to light the main cone while the friend lights the cross sides. If you’ve lit a joint, you can light the main stem of the cross joint, but the side joints can be trickier to get right, particularly that close to your mouth.

But again, be careful. Remember you’re playing with fire. Literally.

If you’re flying solo, first of all: nice. You, my friend, are a hero and in for a good time. Way to take on the challenge. But we’re back to our basic math problem: how do you light three tips with two hand for one holy smoke?

To light a pre-rolled cross cone by yourself, start with the main cone and light it like you would a traditional joint. Don’t worry too much about the cross sections for now, just concentrate on getting an even light to the main cone.

Once you’ve got the main joint pulling through, move on to the cross sections. It works best if you light these at the same time so make sure you are all lined up (honestly, this is a little trickier than it sounds), give your fire a flick and give it a puff. Now, don’t pull too hard so you don’t smoke down your main joint before the cross gets lit, but also don’t leave the flame lit too long or you danger burning parts of your cone before you want to...

And a pro tip: when lighting a cross cone joint, treat the process like you’re lighting a cigar, taking short draws to ensure a nice, even light.

And believe it or not, that’s it. Your Pre-Rolled Cross Cone is now packed and lit.

Let the session begin. Your Smoke Temple awaits.

While it’s certainly easier than rolling your own cross cone, packing and lighting one these bad boys is an art.
