Do Blunt Wraps Contain Tobacco?
Posted by DaySavers Team on May 14th 2026
Back in the day, rolling a blunt always involved a cigar, and usually a cheap one.
In the cigar world, the "blunt" is a type of machine-rolled cigar with a single outer leaf. Because of that, it can be split open and that outer leaf can be used like a giant, tasty rolling paper to wrap up your flower for smoking.
But as the health concerns of tobacco and nicotine became better known and the modern cannabis industry regulations prevented selling tobacco and cannabis products together, something had to give.
And the modern blunt wrap was born. They are made the same basic way as the wraps that are used to make modern cigarillos (most often used for blunts), but with (usually) hemp instead.
But because of their start as cannabis cigars, rolled from the outer leaves of actual cigars, there is still some confusion, so let's get right into it: Do blunt wraps contain tobacco?
Do Blunt Wraps Contain Tobacco?
So the truth is "it depends on the blunt wrap," but generally speaking, no, blunts wraps do not contain tobacco or nicotine, the addictive chemical, most often associated with tobacco.
Now, if you are buying a tobacco-leaf wrap of some sort then yes, obviously, that blunt wrap will contain tobacco.
But outside of cracking a cigar or buying a tobacco-specific wrap, modern blunt wraps are tobacco-free. At DaySavers, for example, we make our blunt wraps out of hemp, but we make them in two different ways, creating two distinct tobacco-free blunt products.
Hemp Wrap Blunt Wraps
We make our Fill-a Blunts Pre-Rolled Blunt Tubes with traditional hemp wrap. We start with European-sourced hemp, but unlike hemp paper that uses just the long hemp fibers, the entire plant is ground into a coarse powder (which is why hemp wraps have a distinctive flavor compared to the cleaner taste of hemp paper).
Since hemp matter doesn't stick together particularly well, the ground hemp is mixed with other natural ingredients to turn it into a cohesive sheet. Now, each company has a different formula for their hemp wraps, but the key is that the added ingredients work as a glue and moisture manager.
Once the mixture is correct, it is spread into sheets, pressed, dried and cured. When done, those dried sheets are cut and formed into wraps, cones and blunt tubes.
However, believe it or not, because hemp wraps are made with ground hemp instead of the longer hemp fibers, it's the bonds between the water molecules that actually give hemp wraps their strength. That's why, when hemp wraps start to dry out and those bonds begin to break down, hemp wraps get brittle and crumbly.
And that can be a problem. So we found a way to solve it.
Hybrid Hemp Blunt Wraps
To combat the crumbling issue, we developed our hybrid hemp wraps, used to make Artisan Tubes and pre-rolled blunt cones.
Our hybrid hemp wraps, unlike the ground hemp fiber in the traditional wraps, add those long hemp fibers into the mix, adding strength that is not dependent on water, leading to a wrap that is much more pliable and less likely to crumble.
We call them "hybrid" because the process is a mash-up of how hemp paper and hemp wraps are made.
Hybrid Hemp Wraps are thicker and more flavorful than hemp paper, but not as thick or earthy as a hemp wrap. They roll like paper, smoke like hemp wrap and don't dry out or get brittle.
It's the best of both worlds. And no, our hybrid hemp wraps never contain any tobacco or nicotine.
Botanical Blunt Wraps
Finally, the blunt wrap world now includes a wide selection of other natural and botanical options, made from the leaves of flowers or other plants.
These can include the ever-popular tea leaf blunt wrap, made with the leaves of the tea plant instead of hemp or wood, like paper. Some use black tea, others green and some even use chamomile, often adding other flavors like cocoa or vanilla to give them a distinctive profile, but never tobacco.
Same for goji berry blunt wraps, made a distinctive orange from the berries used to produce them, or lavender blunt wraps that are made from the beautiful smelling purple flower, but never made with tobacco.
Other wraps such as cocoa, lemongrass and even questionable options such as rose petals or palm leaves (which are difficult to find pesticide- or heavy metals-free sources of) are also all tobacco-free hemp wraps.
Tobacco-Free Blunt Wrap Options
As you can see, the modern blunt wrap market has expanded considerably in the past 30-odd years, involving everything from palm leave to flowers to berries to create classic-style cannabis cigars.
But what about tobacco? That's why we're here, after all. Do blunt wraps contain tobacco? Unless you're buying a tobacco leaf wrap, no, there is no tobacco or nicotine in modern blunt wraps, pre-rolled blunt cones and pre-rolled blunt tubes.
But there are good old-fashioned hemp wraps and new-fashioned hybrid hemp wraps to help provide the same tasty smoking experience.
And for the best pre-rolled blunt tubes around, all with unique filter tip experiences from spiral and wood to glass and ceramic filter tips, check out our Fill-a Blunts pre-rolled blunt tubes.
They Fill Easy, Smoke Easy and never contain tobacco.
Most modern blunt wraps are tobacco- and nicotine-free, but tobacco-leaf wraps do contain tobacco and nicotine, clearly.
