Hash Hole Pre-Rolls: The Donut Joint
Posted by DaySavers Team on Jun 1st 2025
One the hottest crazes in the cannabis space in recent years is the explosion in popularity of hash hole joints and pre-rolls. Scroll through the cannabis corner of any social media platform and you’re guaranteed to see the tell-tale donut-shaped hole at the end of an infused hash hole pre-roll.
Looks cool, right?
But it leads to questions: How’d they do that? What exactly is a hash hole joint? Will a hash hole live up to the hype? Who invented the hash hole joint, anyway? And most importantly, how can you make your own hash hole joints?
Strap in because the DaySavers are here.
What is a Hash Hole Joint?
In simple terms, a hash hole is a joint (or blunt) that’s been supercharged with a core of premium hash rosin or bubble hash running right through the middle of the flower.

As you smoke it, the hash rosin gets vaporized as the flower burns, leaving a “hole” in the center of your joint - hence the name. It’s like the donut of the weed world, but way more potent and flavorful.
You can make a hash hole with a blunt as well. The concept is the same: a worm of hash rosin (or bubble hash) is rolled into the center of your flower, then wrapped up in your favorite rolling paper or blunt wrap. The main difference is in the wrap; joints use rolling papers, while blunts use thicker wraps, like hemp or cigar leaves.
What’s the Difference Between Hash Infused and a Hash Hole?
There are a lot of hash-related pre-roll products, but not all are hash holes.
You might see some labeled “hash-infused” or “infused pre-rolls” at your local dispensary, but that does not mean it’s a hash hole donut joint.

Here’s the deal: “hash-infused” just means that some kind of hash, kief or concentrate has been added to the flower. Sometimes it’s sprinkled on top, sometimes it’s mixed in. But a hash hole is different.
Instead of just mixing or coating, you’re rolling a solid line (or “worm”) of hash rosin right through the center of the joint. This gives you a more controlled, even burn and a much more intense experience. Plus, it creates a great visual of the evaporated rosin.
History of the Hash Hole
So who created the Hash Hole Joint? Unlike SO much in the cannabis world, we actually know this one.

The hash hole’s origin story begins with Shant Damirdjian, better known as Fidel or “Fidel Hydro,” a cultivator and cannabis connoisseur who learned the craft from his brother Serge, a respected grower and co-founder of the Cookies Maywood dispensary.
The story goes that in March 2018, Fidel traveled to Barcelona for Spannabis, Europe’s largest cannabis event. While there, he noticed that everyone was pairing California flower with high-grade hash, smearing it on papers, rolling it into worms, and experimenting with different combinations.
Back in California, Fidel started hand-rolling hash holes, introducing them to the Bay Area’s burgeoning market in 2018 and inventing the term. Each joint featured premium California flower and “six star ice water hash” rolled into the center. As the joint burned, the hash vaporized, leaving a donut-like hole in the ash. This effect not only enhances potency but also delivers a unique flavor and experience. Plus it looks super cool in pictures.
Is the Hash Hole Hype Worth It?

So, is all this buzz justified? Honestly? Yeah, it kinda is.
Infused pre-rolls are the hottest category in pre-rolls. Combining flower with a concentrate enhances the pre-roll's flavor as well as its potency. And hash holes? They pack a punch and look good doing it, you know?
Smoking a hash hole is like combining the best parts of a dab and a joint. The effects are stronger, the taste is richer, and the high lasts longer. It’s not for the faint of heart or the inexperienced, but if you’re looking to elevate your session, the hash hole is worth trying at least once.
And again, the donut joint effect really does look cool.
Can You Roll Your Own Hash Hole?
Of course you can roll your own hash hole. In fact, rolling your own gives you total control over the flower and the amount of concentrate you put in.
But you’re going to need some supplies:
- Premium flower: Go for something fresh and potent. You’ll need about 1.5 grams for a standard hash hole.
- Hash rosin or bubble hash: About 0.3 to 0.5 grams. The fresher and softer, the better.
- Rolling papers or blunt wraps: Obviously, we recommend the best-tested, highest-quality papers you can get your hands on, DaySavers or Smoke Temple Rolling Papers.
- A rolling tray and tools: Grab your grinder, tray, filter tips and maybe a dab tool for handling the hash.
- Patience and a steady hand: Rolling a hash hole is a little trickier than a regular joint, but practice makes perfect.
Roll Your Own Donut Joint (Hash Hole)
But you’re going to need some supplies:
- Grind your flower: Not too fine, not too chunky. You want it to burn evenly. We recommend about 7 turns or so of an average weed grinder.
- Shape your hash rosin: Take your hash rosin (or bubble hash) and roll it into a thin “worm” about the length of your joint.
- Lay out your paper and add your filter or crutch: Place your rolling paper (or blunt wrap) on your tray. If you like a little extra stability or filter to catch any excess particles and resin, now is the time. Fold your filter into your preferred shape (I like a “w” or a spiral, if I'm feeling fancy) and place it at one end of your paper. Or, pick up a pack of DaySavers premium wood, glass or ceramic filter tips featuring Ceramicool™ technology and roll one of those into the paper.
- Sprinkle in your flower:Sprinkle your ground flower evenly from the end of your filter to the opposite end of the paper, like you would rolling any joint.
- Place the hash worm: Place your line of hash rosin right in the center of the flower, lengthwise. The closer to the center you get this, the more even your hash hole will burn and the cooler it will look while it does.
- Roll it up: Carefully roll the flower and hash into a joint, making sure the hash stays as centered as possible. Tuck and roll as you normally would, then seal it up.
- Pack, close and seal: Pack the ends gently to ensure an even burn, then twist or fold the tip closed.
How to Pack a Hash Hole Pre-Roll
It takes a bit of effort, but if you prefer packing a pre-rolled cone to rolling a joint (and we totally get it) it's possible to make a hash hole pre-roll yourself.
You are going to need some extra parts though, like some tweezers or something to hold the rosin snake in place, and some kind of vertical holder for the cone itself while you pack it. The DaySavers Fast Fill Rolling Tray, for example, makes this much easier.
First, drop your cone into one of the Fast Fill’s cone funnels and then grind up your weed like normally and dump it onto the tray’s non-stick surface.

Using the little brush, push some ground flower into the funnel and give it a slight tamp to pack it against the filter end of your cone. Don't put a lot into this first pack, just enough to create a solid base of flower on top of the crutch.
Now, grab those tweezers and use them to hold the rosin snake in place in the middle of the cone. Lower it on top of the flower that is there, but be careful not to push too hard as you want to keep it as straight as possible. While holding it in place with one hand, use your other hand to begin sweeping flower into the cone around rosin snake and then tamping down when you can with a thin poking stick.
As your cone fills with flower around the rosin snake, you should be able to let go, leaving it in the middle of your pre-roll as you fill and tamp around it until it’s time to close ‘er up, pop the cone back out and fire it up!

How Much Hash Rosin Do You Need for a Hash Hole?
The sweet spot is usually between 0.3 and 0.5 grams of hash rosin per joint, depending on how strong you want it and how much flower you’re using. Too little, and you won’t get the signature “hole” effect; too much, and you risk uneven burning or wasting precious concentrate.
For beginners, start small and work your way up as you get the hang of it.
What is the Best Concentrate Consistency for Hash Holes?
Not all hash or rosin is created equal. For hash holes, you want a concentrate that’s soft, pliable, and easy to shape; think “badder” or “budder” consistency. These types are easy to roll into a worm and melt evenly as the joint burns.
Shatter or crumble can work in a pinch, but they’re harder to handle and might not burn as smoothly.
Hash Hole Tips and Tricks
Look, all of this is easy for me to say, right? But in practice, this might take a few tries to get right. But here’s a couple of Hash Hole Tips and Tricks to keep in mind:
- Keep your hash cold: If your rosin is too sticky, pop it in the fridge for a few minutes to make it easier to handle.
- Don’t overstuff: Too much hash or flower can make the joint hard to roll or burn unevenly. It’s already more potent than you think anyway, so don’t go overboard.
- Rotate as you smoke: Roll the joint as you puff to keep the burn even and prevent runs.
- Use a glass or ceramic filter tip: While a simple “w” or spiral filter will get the job done, the addition of the concentrate means your pre-roll is going to burn a little hotter than usual. The addition of a premium filter tip, such as the DaySavers Ceramic Filter Tips with Ceramicool™ technology helps cool the smoke for smoother, bigger hits and blocks even more resin from getting through.
- Practice makes perfect: Again, your first few hash holes might not be pretty, but keep at it. It gets easier with each roll. Plus, you have hash hole joints to smoke.
How to Smoke a Hash Hole

It sounds a bit odd, but smoking a hash hole is a little different experience than a regular pre-roll or joint.
Take extra care to light it evenly and then take slow, steady puffs, rotating or rolling the joint as you go. The hash will start to melt and bubble, creating that signature donut-shaped burn and may add a little harshness, so take it easy and let it work its magic.
Don’t rush it. Enjoy the ride and be prepared for a stronger, longer-lasting high than you’re used to.
Final Thoughts on the Hash Hole Joint
Whether you call them hash holes or donut joints, and whether you pick it up at a dispensary or pack one up at home, the hash hole is a great way to onboard with the infused pre-roll trend.
They taste great, hit hard and leave a great impression.
We all owe a debt of thanks to Shant Damirdjian and the spark of brilliance that day in Spain all those years ago.
And what better way to celebrate than by rolling a hash hole? I’ll get the hash rosin...
