How Many Joints Can You Get From an Ounce, Half, Quarter, Eighth, or Gram of Weed?

In an episode of Trailer Park Boys, Ricky won't budge on his $12 bucks a gram price tag for his home-grown bud when Jim Lahey stops by to pick up for Randy.

Lahey tells him, "Well I refuse $12 a gram when you can get it for $6 down at the mall," to which Ricky replies, "Go down to the f***ing mall and get the s***y mall dope, you only get one joint out of a gram, it's s**t."

Which got us thinking: How many joints can you get out of a gram of weed? Or an eighth? A quarter? A half-ounce? A full ounce?

So being the DaySavers, we set out to find the answer. Without further ado, let's take a look at how many pre-rolls you can get out of common amounts of flower.

Calculating How Many Pre-Rolls Come from Standard Flower Weights

Multiple factors influence the actual count of pre-rolls one can get out of a certain amount of flower.

The obvious question is what size pre-rolls are we trying to produce? In the pre-roll industry, there are four standard pre-rolled cones sizes:

    • 70mm, 0.3-Gram Mini Dogwalker Cones
    • 84mm, 1¼, Half-Gram Pre-Rolled Cones
    • 98mm, 0.75-Gram Pre-Roll Cones
    • 109mm, King-Size 1-Gram Cones

So we calculated how many pre-rolls can be made with each size of cone for each specific flower weight category, using the average flower capacities for each cone listed above in our analysis.

However, another factor to consider is the quality of the flower, including the moisture content of the flower and the stem-to-bud ratio, as flower with varying moisture content will affect the weight of your joint or pre-roll.

Additional factors include grind size, whether or not the flower was sifted and pack density.

For the purpose of this analysis, we will calculate in terms of general weight and capacity, looking first at the yield of an ounce of flower, down to a single gram. These results can be viewed as a theoretical yield based on cone capacity, as actual joint counts will vary based on the factors above.

How Many Joints Can Be Rolled with an Ounce of Weed?

With a full 28 grams of flower at your disposal, an ounce gives you tons of room to play around with pre-roll sizes, like whether you want a mountain of smaller joints, a solid stash of full-gram joints or a little bit of everything.

How Many Joints Can Be Packed with a Half Ounce of Bud?

A half-ounce is a sweet spot where you have a sizable amount flower to fill a respectable batch of pre-rolls without having to commit to an entire ounce at once.

    Flower Quantity 70mm Pre-Rolls 84mm Pre-Rolls 98mm Pre-Rolls 109mm Pre-Rolls
    Half - 14g 46 28 18 14

How Many Joints Can Be Rolled with a Quarter Ounce of Weed?

Seven grams also turns into a surprisingly healthy stack of joints, especially when you start breaking that quarter-ounce down across smaller cone sizes.

    Quarter - 7g 23 14 9 7

How Many Joints Can Be Packed with an Eighth of Cannabis?

An eighth is one of the most familiar amounts of flower around, but how many joints you can get from those 3.5 grams can range pretty dramatically depending on the size of pre-rolls you're looking to fashion.

    Eighth – 3.5g 11 7 4 3

How Many Joints Can Be Rolled with a Gram of Weed?

And finally, a single gram of flower. When you only have one gram to work with, every bit counts, and choosing the right cone size can mean the difference between one big joint or a few smaller smoke sessions, so pack smart.

May Your Pre-Roll Stash Runneth Over

So there you have it folks, whether you're rolling a massive amount of half-gram joints from a big ol' ounce of fresh za or stretching your one gram between mini dogwalkers, you should now have a sense of what your yield will be after packing or rolling up these standard weights of flower.

And, of course, all of these are estimates.

But one ounce of flower will yield from 93 mini pre-rolls to 28 king-size pre-rolls, while half an ounce of flower will yield 46 mini dogwalker pre-rolls to 14 full-gram pre-rolls.

A quarter ounce of flower on average will yield from 23 mini pre-rolls to 7 king-size pre-rolls, while an eighth will yield 11 mini dogwalker pre-rolls to 3 full-gram pre-rolls. And finally, a lone gram of flower will yield 3 mini pre-rolls while only producing a single king-size pre-roll.

For those who pack pre-rolls at scale on the regular, consider a DaySavers Mini-Tower Box of pre-rolled cones, available in refined white, natural brown and organic hemp rolling paper, as well as hybrid hemp wrap and in all standard sizes.
