    How Much Do Pre-Rolls Cost?

Times are tough and money can be tight these days, and for those of us looking for the best bang for their cannabis dollar, the clear choice is the pre-roll.

Once an afterthought filled with whatever trim was left after the flower got packed up for dispensary shelves, pre-rolls are now an industry-leading category with a low price point that encourages innovation in producers and experimentation among smokers.

And if you're not going to pack up your own perfect pre-roll at home with the flower, paper and cone size of your choice, you might be wondering if that pre-roll at the dispensary is priced fairly or not.

So how much do pre-rolls cost? How much do infused pre-rolls cost? And how much do pre-rolled blunts cost?

Don't fret, DaySavers checked. Let's get into it!

    How Much Do Pre-Rolls Cost?

According to cannabis analytics firm Headset, which tracks point-of-sale data across 15 states, the average cost of a pre-roll product in 2025 was $9.29. That's down from an average of $9.96 in 2024, a drop of 6.7%.

However, a national average is not all that helpful, really, because prices vary so much from state to state.

For example, in New York, the average price of a pre-roll product is $20.59, whereas Michigan residents only pay an average of $4.61 per pre-roll product. And while there is a wide variance between the states, every state except three (Missouri, Nevada and Colorado) saw prices drop, with Michigan and Connecticut leading the way with average price drops of 21.9% and 20.4%, respectively.

Prices on pre-rolls tend to vary based on the age of the market. For example, New York is still in the early stages of legalization and there may still be a scarcity of flower as all of the available licenses have not yet been issued and producers are yet to fully dial in their harvest schedules. Connecticut and New Jersey (a drop of 15.5%), on the other hand are seeing their prices drop as the post-launch environment normalizes.

Colorado, meanwhile, saw an increase of 5% as that state's mature market leaned more toward infused products.

Here is a full look at the average price of a pre-roll product in the states tracked by Headset:

    Equalized Pre-Roll Costs

A "pre-roll product" can be anything from a single pre-roll to a 10-pack of infused pre-rolls or even a 28-pack, so even the average pre-roll unit (product) price can feel a bit off. So let's level the playing field a bit and equalize the cost of pre-rolls per gram, instead of averaging the overall prices of products.

Instead of just looking at the cost of the pre-roll product, we'll divide that number by the number of grams of flower in the product to create a metric we can apply across the board.

So if a 1-gram single cost $5, then it's equalized price is $5 per gram. But if you picked up a 2-gram 4-pack for $9, then the equalized price is $4.50 per gram. And a 2.5-gram 5 pack of infused pre-rolls for $25 has an equalized price of $10 per gram.

So when we equalize the price to a gram, it drops to a national average price of $5.93 per pre-rolled gram. That number is also down from $6.57 in 2024, a drop of 9.7%.

But again, there is a wide variance between the states, ranging from a low of $3.24 in Michigan and Washington up to a high of $13.18 in Connecticut.

We also have some data on the average cost, nationally, of a single pre-roll pack – usually a 1-gram pre-roll: $5.77 per unit, down from $6.46 in 2024.

Here is a look at average equalized price for 2025 in the tracked states:

Average Pre-Roll Prices by Product Segment

But again, the average price is only so helpful when there is still a huge variance among prices of the different types of pre-rolls you find at dispensaries. Infused pre-rolls, for example, are going to have a higher price point than a single strain flower pre-roll because of the addition of a concentrate or two, and the additional work involved in making them.

The highest average price point is for mixed strain pre-rolls at $14.02, which may seem odd, but the mixed strain category features a high percentage of large multi-pack pre-roll products, which drives up the overall average for the entire segment.

    price of prerolls

Infused pre-rolls cost an average of $11.59 per unit, down 9% from 2024. The drop of more than a dollar on average is generally due to increased competition and price compression within the segment, which is great for those of us who like a little something extra in with the flower in their pre-rolls.

Interestingly enough, the CBD segment comes in next at $10.35. This is the least popular pre-roll type in dispensaries, and as a niche product it comes with a higher price point.

The single strain pre-rolls round out the category with the lowest average prices on the market, which makes sense if you think about it: these products are just flower packed into pre-rolled cones, with no fancy concentrate to push up the cost. And because of this, brands can price them to move.

Sativa pre-rolls, the least popular of the three among buyers, run an average of $9.54 while hybrids (the most popular pre-roll in the country by units sales) clocks in a full two bucks cheaper at $7.54, followed by indica pre-rolls at $7.24.

    What About Pre-Roll Blunt Costs?

    blunts

According to Hedaset, the Cannabgar and Blunt segment is the second-most expensive at an average of $12.61 per unit, but again, the products in that segment tend to be larger weights and/or multi-pack products.

However, Headset's data includes any infused blunt products – which most are – as "infused" pre-rolls, so we have to dig a bit deeper here. When we analyze the full list of products that include the word "blunt," the average price actually goes up to $17.61, which, again, makes sense when you add in the additional cost of a concentrate and the work to pack it into a pre-roll.

The most popular blunt product by revenue is the 1.5-gram single with an average price of $17.56, followed by a 2.5-gram 5-pack at $22.32 and a 2-gram single at $20.17.

Like we said, larger product formats generally mean higher prices.

    How Much Does a Pre-Roll Multi-Pack Cost?

What's better than a pre-roll? A bunch of pre-rolls, obviously. That's why multi-packs are absolutely taking over sales charts.

Yes, the 1-gram single, at an average price of $5.77, is still the single most popular format in pre-rolls, but in 2025, 90 of the top 100 best-selling pre-roll products were multi-packs.

    So what do they cost?

The most popular multi-pack format, by far, is the 5-pack. Usually made up of half-gram pre-rolls, the 5-pack has an average price point of $24.48 and accounts for 25.5% of all pre-roll revenue, selling nearly 37 million units. That price is down 4.8% since 2024.

The 2-pack averages $8.17 and sold 32 million units while the 10-pack, which sold 7.3 million units, has an average price of $24.09.

Final Thoughts on the Price of Pre-Rolled Joints and Blunts

So $5.77 on average for a full-gram pre-roll is pretty good, and depending on your state, it might even be less.

Pre-rolls are a convenient and inexpensive way to try a new strain or experiment with a new brand, whether you're grabbing one or a multi-pack.

And, of course, you can always pick out your favorite flower, grab your favorite cone size, shape and paper type from DaySavers and pack it yourself with a Perfect Pack or a Fast Fill Rolling Tray – or by hand of course.

But however you like your pre-rolls, I think we can all agree it's an easy and inexpensive way to Enjoy Your Day!
