    Joint & Blunt Bubblers

Catch me at the park on a sunny day or near the marquee outside of a show and you know I’ll have either a glass tipped Fill-a Blunt or a pre-rolled glass tip Artisan Tube on my person, and that’s just a fact.

But catch me at home and next to my stoner kit of DaySavers cones, blunts, papers and premium filter tips you’ll find – in a wide variety of shapes, sizes and formats – the glass rigs that use water to produce massive, filtered plumes of chronic smoke: the trusty bong.

    joint bubblers

When bud is sparked and a pull taken from a bong, the hot smoke passes through water – which has a high heat capacity – producing a significantly cooler hit free of debris or Scooby snacks. It’s the water that delivers the crisp bong rips we all know and love, and that’s why they sit closely behind pre-rolls as my second favorite method of consumption.

But until now combining the two has eluded our Research & Development department (something about water being wet; I don’t know, I'm not a scientist). But fear not, the most innovative smoking accessories company on the market wouldn’t let physics – pffft – get in the way of a water-filtered pre-roll experience.

That’s why we collaborated with MJ Arsenal, known widely for their high-performance dab rigs and bongs, to bring the filtration and cooling power of water to the pre-roll experience. The result: the Joint Bubbler.

A joint bubbler, you say? A joint bubbler, indeed.

But what is a joint bubbler? Do joint bubblers for pre-rolls really work to cool off smoke or is this just one big smoke screen? Can joint bubblers double as blunt bubblers? You’ve got questions, we have answers.

    What is a Joint Bubbler?

Similar to the way a classic glass bubbler incorporates a water chamber to a traditional pipe, a joint bubbler is a piece of stand-alone glassware that has a mouthpiece to draw from, a “joint bowl” where you place your joint – and yes, blunts tool - and a carb that controls airflow. Once you’ve placed your pre-roll into the specially designed joint bubbler, what you really have is a bubbler that is loaded with as much flower as you packed or rolled in your joint.

Unlike a bong where you light, pull and remove the bowl to have airflow to pull in the rip, the joint bubbler employs a carb that is closed during the pull and opened to clear the smoke. But the star of the show is the water chamber.

Just like when flower in a bong or bubbler is ignited, the smoke from your pre-roll is pulled through a tube in the glass to the bottom of the water chamber, creating bubbles of smoke in the water as it passes through the chamber and out into your lungs.

Beyond cooling, water is an extremely functional filter as ash and bits of plant material are trapped in the chamber's liquid, practically eliminating any possibilities of pulling Scooby snacks through to the user.

But it’s the way water cools smoke that makes bubblers and bongs so universally appreciated.

Do Joint Bubblers Work at Cooling Pre-Roll Smoke?

    joint bubblers

The straight answer is you’re darn tootin’ - joint bubblers greatly cool the smoke of joints and blunts. And while the exact reduction in temperature isn’t a clean number, looking at the science offers a bit of insight.

By the time a joint, bowl or blunt is lit and cherried with a strong light, lit flower can reach temperatures from – get this – 1,100 to more than 1,600 degrees Fahrenheit – yowza! But of course we’re not rippin’ down 1,500-degree tokes, the temperature of the smoke is greatly cooled before it even hits the water. Traditional pre-roll smoke through a paper filter and without a bubbler will yield smoke around 150 to 250 degrees, depending on the intensity of the draw and the temperature rise in the cherry.

But as pre-roll smoke passes through tubes and water, not to mention the overall movement of the smoke through the entirety of the glass joint bubbler (which itself helps cool the smoke, even without the water), smoke temperatures plummet to the 90-to-140-degree range.

That's a temperature drop of between 75 and 145 degrees through the joint bubbler, compared to dry smoking, about half.

So even though you are combusting flower at over 1,000 degrees, those iron lungs of yours can rest easy knowing your pre-rolled joint smoke will get a nice, cooling bath before gracing your lungs at around 140 degrees or less.

Not bad for this little powerhouse of a pre-roll accessory, ay?

How to Use a Joint Bubbler

We’ve broken down the science, now let’s get into the logistics of joint and blunt bubblin’ – and don’t worry, there’s no experience required.

First and foremost, prep your pre-roll. Joint bubblers work best with classic pre-rolled cones and a standard-sized paper joint filter – measuring in at 26mm long and around 5.5mm wide. Filter length is less important than width as the joint bowl’s diameter will determine what size pre-roll can fit inside. Joints and blunts without filters fit easily into the joint bowl, and while they may have been sans-filter a second ago, they’re rockin’ water filtration now, Big Dog!

    Pre-Roll Pro Tip

Use room temperature water in your bubbler for the best tasting results.

The colder the water use in your bubbler, the cooler the smoke will be when it hits your lungs, but that might not be the best option for flavor. See, colder water will create condensation in your bubbler, resulting in some terp loss.

However, room temperature water not only helps cool the smoke for bigger hits, but also helps lock in as many terps as possible, so you can get the most flavor of your pre-roll!

For reference, the DaySavers x MJ Arsenal Terp Joint Bubblers fit’s standard size pre-roll filters sitting in the 5.5mm range, but as long as the filter fits snug in the joint bowl, it doesn’t matter if you’re loading a Dogwalker or a King size, your pre-roll bubbler is up to the task. In fact, any DaySavers pre-rolled cone with a classic “w” filter will fit easily in the joint bubbler.

Once you're ready for liftoff, place the pre-roll into the joint bowl filter side first, making sure to find a snug fit to reduce spaces where air can bypass your pre-roll.

    Next up, sesh time!

With your pre-roll snug in the joint bubbler, grab your lighter in one hand and your bubbler in the other, but keep a finger free for your draws, you’ll need to make sure the carb is closed on your inhales.

When hitting a joint bubbler, easy draws work best, but with the cooling power of water filtration, you’ll probably notice you’re able to put down bigger hits with the cooler smoke. And while not a pro-tip per say, the seasoned pre-roll smokers at DaySavers mention that if you open up airflow through the card while taking a rip, you’ll introduce swirling room-temperature air into the mix which can further cool your hits.

Plus, our DaySavers Terp Joint & Blunt Bubblers feature two designs and come in a blind box for a cheeky surprise, each featuring one of two shapes, based on the DaySavers Terp character emblazoned on the side: Petey Pinene, the tree-smoking tree or Mercy Myrcene, the mighty mango. Collect them all!

And that’s it! Smoking pre-rolls through a bubbler is about more than just adding shiny new toys to your Stoner Kit, it’s the most effective way to cool down pre-roll smoke.

And just like a pipe, bowl, bubbler or bong, resin buildup from use will occur throughout your sessions, but with minimal chambers and their compact size, a little bit of Isopropyl alcohol, coarse salt and a good shake will clean it right up and have you ready for your next pre-roll.

Now you’re ready to get the most flavor out of your pre-rolls as possible and truly Enjoy Your Day, your way.

A Joint bubbler is a piece of glassware that has a mouthpiece, water chamber and "joint" bowl for easy pre-roll smoking.
